About Miaodyer

Miaodyer is an online learning platform dedicated to Chinese tie-dyeing, paste-resist dyeing, and the cultural context surrounding Miao textile traditions.

We created Miaodyer because traditional dyeing can be difficult to learn online. Tutorials are often incomplete, materials can be confusing, and important details are easily missed. Our goal is to make the process clear, practical, and approachable—wherever you live.

Learning With Cultural Respect

Miao textile traditions are diverse and vary across regions and communities. We do not present one technique, pattern, or style as representative of an entire culture.

Wherever possible, we explain the specific cultural and regional sources referenced in our lessons. We encourage students to understand the meaning and origins of traditional work, credit their sources, and distinguish cultural study from personal interpretation.

For us, traditional patterns are more than decorative elements. They are connected to people, place, memory, and lived culture.

Our Promise

Indigo dyeing students proudly displaying their unique handmade textile patterns after a workshop.

Every handmade piece is different. Fabric, resist, dye, temperature, and timing can all affect the result, so your work may not look exactly like the demonstration—and that is part of its beauty.

We do not promise instant perfection. We promise clear instruction, honest guidance, and practical knowledge that helps you understand the process and create with confidence.
